Gauranga Das, a Governing Body Commissioner of ISKCON, has voiced concerns over the recent violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. He urged the Bangladesh government to ensure the safety of all citizens, particularly minorities, and to protect Hindu temples and idols. Das emphasized the importance of religious freedom for all minorities, including Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians.
In response to a recent incident, Bangladesh police arrested an individual for vandalizing Hindu idols in the Shakuair area. Abul Khair, Officer in Charge of Haluaghat Police Station, confirmed the arrest.
Kirti Vardhan Singh, MoS External Affairs, reported in the Lok Sabha that there have been 2,200 cases of violence against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh this year. The country is experiencing unrest following a student-led movement that resulted in the ousting of Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The movement, which began in June 2024, was driven by demands for reforms in the government job quota system and led to significant violence and over 600 deaths. An interim government led by Yunus is currently in place.
Additionally, Chinmoy Krishna Das, a former ISKCON priest, was arrested for sedition in Bangladesh, leading to global protests.
