Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India] August 7: Former Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki appeared in a court in Kanpur on Wednesday regarding a 2022 extortion case. Irfan Solanki and his younger brother Rizwan Solanki were present in the Kanpur District and Sessions Court with heavy security.

Irfan Solanki’s lawyer, Saeed Naqvi, mentioned that multiple cases were filed against their client after an arson case was registered in 2022. He argued that the extortion case lacks details such as the crime date or year, and requested minimal charges.

Currently, Irfan Solanki is in Maharajganj jail, serving a 7-year sentence for the arson case. In June, the MP MLA court in Kanpur sentenced Irfan Solanki, Rizwan Solanki, and three others to 7 years in prison and fined them Rs 20,000 each for arson.

On November 8, 2022, Nazir Fatima filed an FIR at Jajmau police station against Irfan Solanki, Rizwan Solanki, and three others, accusing them of setting her house on fire to take over her land. The charges included sections 436, 506, 504, 147, 427, 386, and 120B of the IPC.

Prosecution lawyer Prachi Shrivastav stated that the court’s order was justified, while Irfan Solanki’s advocate, Karim Siddiqui, disagreed, noting the lack of evidence presented by the prosecution.

On June 3, the court found Irfan Solanki guilty under sections 436, 427, 147, 504, 506, and 323, but acquitted him of charges under sections 386, 149, and 120B.
