The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) conducted search operations in Kolkata on Tuesday morning, focusing on financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. One of the searches was at the residence of Dr. Sudipto Roy, a Trinamool Congress MLA, who is under investigation.
Earlier this month, the ED searched the home of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Ghosh is currently in judicial custody, facing charges under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is also involved in the case. On September 10, a CBI court remanded Sandip Ghosh and three others to judicial custody until September 23. Ghosh was arrested on September 2 for alleged corruption and financial irregularities, following a directive from the Calcutta High Court.
The CBI is also investigating the death of a woman trainee doctor found dead at the college on August 9. The Calcutta High Court has given the CBI three weeks to submit a progress report on the investigation, due today, September 17.
