Indian para-athletes excelled at the Paralympics, securing 29 medals, with Avani Lekhara and Sumit Antil winning gold. Harvinder Singh made history with India's first Paralympic gold in archery.
Several athletes received prestigious awards: Manu Bhaker, Gukesh Dommaraju, Harmanpreet Singh, and Praveen Kumar were honored with the Khel Ratna. The Arjuna Awards were given to hockey players Jarmanpreet Singh, Sanjay, Abhishek, Sukhjeet Singh, Salima Tete, chess grandmaster Vantika Agrawal, athlete Jyothi Yarraji, and several para-athletes. Swapnil Suresh Kusale, Sarabjot Singh, Mona Agarwal, and Rubina Francis also received Arjuna Awards. Armando Agnelo Colaco was awarded the Dronacharya Award in the lifetime category.
The awards will be presented by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 17, 2025.
