North India witnesses chilly morning, Srinagar records -3.2°C
Chilly Weather and Poor Air Quality in Delhi and Ajmer
This morning, a thick fog covered parts of Delhi, with temperatures dropping to 8 degrees Celsius at 5:30 am. Many people in the city gathered around bonfires to keep warm, while others sought shelter in night homes. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the minimum temperatures in Delhi's Safdarjung and Palam areas were 7.3 and 8.8 degrees Celsius, respectively, at 8:30 am.
In Rajasthan, the cold weather continued to affect daily life. Ajmer City was also foggy, with temperatures falling to 11 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir experienced its coldest night, with temperatures plummeting to -3.2 degrees Celsius, causing Dal Lake's surface to freeze.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi remained in the 'very poor' category due to the fog, which reduced visibility. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded an AQI of 388 at 7 am. On the previous day, the AQI was 398. Various areas in Delhi also reported 'very poor' AQI levels, with ITO at 384, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at 372, and IGI Airport (T3) at 372. Some areas even reached the 'severe' category, with Alipur at 411, Anand Vihar at 427, and RK Puram at 408.
An AQI between 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor, and 401-500 severe.
