In New Delhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's criticism of the opposition for allegedly disrupting parliamentary proceedings. Kharge stated that the opposition's intention was to discuss serious allegations against the Adani Group, including bribery and fraud, in the Lok Sabha to protect the country's interests.
Kharge highlighted that public funds were allegedly used for bribery, with accusations of corruption and financial irregularities against the Adani Group. He emphasized the need to address these issues in Parliament under rule 267, citing a significant bribery amount of Rs 2030 crores. Kharge also mentioned that U.S. intelligence agencies have records of these allegations.
Further criticizing PM Modi, Kharge claimed that wherever the Prime Minister travels, the Adani Group receives contracts, and he has a list of such instances. He expressed the desire to discuss these matters with the Rajya Sabha Chairman, PM, and other ministers, asserting that the opposition's actions were aimed at safeguarding the nation, not causing disruptions.
The Winter Session of Parliament began with early disruptions, leading to adjournments in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. PM Modi accused the opposition of trying to control Parliament for political gains, suggesting that they hinder its progress rather than contribute to it.
Congress MPs, including Venugopal, Manish Tewari, and Manickam Tagore, submitted notices to discuss the Adani Group's indictment and proposed forming a Joint Parliamentary Committee to investigate the allegations. AAP MP Sanjay Singh also called for a discussion on the indictment by a U.S. court.
