Congress MP Manish Tewari Criticizes Deportation of Undocumented Indians from the US
In New Delhi, Congress MP Manish Tewari has raised concerns about the deportation of Indian nationals from the United States. He highlighted that there are approximately 7,25,000 undocumented Indians in the US, with 24,000 currently detained. Tewari questioned if India would accept these individuals back under degrading conditions while External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar attends international conferences.
On social media, Tewari expressed his disapproval of Jaishankar's statement in the Lok Sabha, which he perceived as defending the use of handcuffs and shackles by the US administration. Tewari criticized the minister's stance, suggesting it aligned more with a US official than India's Foreign Minister.
Recently, a US Air Force plane carrying 104 Indian nationals who had illegally immigrated to the US arrived in Amritsar, Punjab. Opposition parties have criticized the government for the manner in which these individuals were deported, alleging they were ill-treated and handcuffed.
