On October 15, the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced bypolls for 48 assembly constituencies across 15 states, including nine seats in Uttar Pradesh and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. The announcement was made during a press conference where Kumar also revealed the dates for assembly polls in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
Details of the Bypolls
In Uttar Pradesh, bypolls will be held for nine out of ten vacant assembly seats, excluding Milkipur in Ayodhya due to a pending election petition. The polling for 47 assembly seats and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat is scheduled for November 13, while one assembly constituency in Uttarakhand and Nanded in Maharashtra will vote on November 20. The results will be declared on November 23.

The bypolls are significant for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh, as they aim to regain momentum after a setback in the recent Lok Sabha polls.
