Chamari Athapaththu to Miss T20I Series in Ireland for Oval Invincibles
Sri Lanka’s captain Chamari Athapaththu will not be available for the upcoming T20I series in Ireland due to her commitments with the Oval Invincibles in The Hundred. She will compete in all group stages for the Invincibles, with the final game on August 14. The T20Is are scheduled for August 11 and 13.
Athapaththu will join the Sri Lanka team for the ODI series, part of the 2022-2025 ICC Women’s Championship cycle, starting August 16. She was recently named Player of the Tournament in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, scoring 304 runs in five matches at an average of 101.33.
Her absence provides an opportunity for young players to make an impact. Kaushini Nuthyangana, a young wicketkeeper, has been included in the 16-player squad and is awaiting her ODI debut. Vishmi Gunaratne, the fifth-highest run-getter in women’s T20Is in 2024, will also look to step up. Spin-bowling allrounder Kavisha Dilhari is another player to watch, having recently impressed with a quick 30* off 16 balls against India.
