The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Court has sentenced Rayabharapu Venkata Lakshmi (RVL) Narasimha Rao, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Central Excise & Customs, and his wife, Rayabharapu Gowri Ratnam, to three years in prison. They were fined a total of Rs two lakh in a disproportionate assets case.
The CBI registered the case against the couple, alleging that between July 1, 2007, and August 4, 2011, RVL Narasimha Rao, while serving as a public servant, accumulated assets worth approximately Rs 31.20 lakh, which were disproportionate to his known income. His wife, Gowri Ratnam, was accused of abetting the offense by allowing assets to be acquired in her name.
The Special Judge Court for CBI Cases in Visakhapatnam has ordered the confiscation of properties equal to the disproportionate assets, valued at approximately Rs 27.57 lakh.
In a separate incident, the CBI apprehended the Zonal Incharge of Mother Dairy's South Zone in Delhi for accepting a bribe of Rs 45,000. The accused had initially demanded Rs 60,000 to not cancel a distributorship but settled for Rs 45,000. The CBI caught the accused red-handed and conducted searches at his premises.
