BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj Criticizes Delhi Government
Unpaid Anganwadi and ASHA Workers
In New Delhi, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj has criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, led by Chief Minister Atishi, for not paying Anganwadi workers for seven months and not increasing the stipend for ASHA workers. Swaraj called the situation "shameful" and highlighted that ASHA workers, who earn Rs 3,000 monthly, have not seen a stipend increase since 2018, despite a law mandating revisions every three years.
After meeting with Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, Swaraj expressed satisfaction with his assurance to address the issue with the Delhi Chief Minister. The Lieutenant Governor has advised the AAP government to increase the ASHA workers' stipend to Rs 9,000 per month and to release the overdue salaries for Anganwadi supervisors.
The Lieutenant Governor's recommendations followed a meeting with ASHA and Anganwadi workers, who reported their financial struggles and requested intervention. ASHA workers, who serve as non-medical health workers under the National Health Mission, have been vocal about their inadequate pay amid rising inflation and government inaction.
