Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Discusses Imran Khan’s Political Future and Constitutional Amendments

In Islamabad, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari shared his views on the political future of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan, stating it “looks bleak.” He mentioned that if Khan had made better political decisions since April 2022, he might still be the prime minister. Bhutto Zardari criticized Khan for preferring interactions with the establishment over politicians.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed confidence that proposed constitutional amendments would be passed by October 25. He emphasized the PPP’s desire to work with all political parties, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman. The PPP supports equal rights for all provinces and judicial reforms, and both PPP and JUI-F opposed changes to Articles 8 and 51 of the constitution.

A committee for political consensus was formed, but PTI boycotted it. Bhutto Zardari advocated for proportional representation in appointing judges. Addressing the Balochistan High Court Bar Association, he urged lawyers to recognize constitutional courts as mandated by the constitution. He clarified that his efforts for constitutional amendments were not aimed at the current chief justice, Qazi Faez Isa, and stressed that Article 63(A) was intended to prevent horse-trading, not control parliamentary members.
