Assam CM Sarma engages with senior Japanese officials, industry leaders
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's Japan Visit
On the final day of his visit to Japan, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma continued his efforts to attract investors to Assam. He met with Takeshi Okubo from Tokyo Electron, a leader in the semiconductor industry, inviting them to expand in Assam's Electronic City.
Sarma also had a productive meeting with Yoshiaki Asakura of Yokogawa Electric Corporation, discussing their operations in Assam with Numaligarh Refinery Ltd and Indian Oil, and encouraging further expansion in the energy sector.
He met Akiko Ikuina, Japan's Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, to discuss opportunities for Indian youth in Japan. Sarma also explored credit linkages and Japanese investments with Takao Hosoya, CEO of Mizuho Securities India.
In a meeting with Terutoshi Hamano from Toyota Motor Corporation, Sarma urged the establishment of an automobile ancillary unit in Assam and the expansion of Toyota's Skill Centres.
Sarma engaged with Hara Shohei from JICA to discuss support for ongoing projects and partnerships for a Japanese Industrial Park in Assam. He also invited Japanese universities to collaborate with Assam's universities and increase student exchange programs.
Before leaving Japan, Sarma attended a dinner hosted by India's Ambassador to Japan, Sibi George, and met with Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, discussing Indo-Japan relations.
Sarma noted the benefits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's focus on Japan, highlighting the unprecedented access Assam's delegation received. He met over 160 business leaders and five Japanese ministers, reflecting Assam's growing role in Indian diplomacy.
