On Monday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil in New Delhi. The meeting focused on the progress of the 'Har Ghar Jal' initiative in Assam, which aims to provide tap water to every rural household. Currently, over 80% of rural homes in Assam have access to tap water.
Chief Minister Sarma requested the Union government's support to fully implement the scheme across the state. Union Minister Patil assured full support from his ministry to help Assam achieve complete coverage under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Other attendees included Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, and senior officials from the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
The 'Har Ghar Jal' initiative, launched in 2019 by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, aims to provide 55 liters of tap water per person per day to every rural household by 2024.
