The Assam Police have arrested 416 individuals and registered 335 cases in the third phase of their operation against child marriage, which began on the night of December 21-22. These individuals are set to appear in court today. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared this update on social media, emphasizing the state's commitment to eradicating child marriage.
Honoring Assam Movement Martyrs
On December 10, during Swahid Divas, Chief Minister Sarma paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives during the Assam Movement. He highlighted the state's efforts to protect the rights of indigenous people and preserve their identity. The government is also working on delimitation to minimize the impact of infiltrators and has cleared 10,000 hectares of encroached land.
Chief Minister Sarma remembered Khargeswar Talukdar, the first martyr of the Assam agitation, and acknowledged the sacrifices of over 800 martyrs who fought to protect Assam from illegal migration.
