In a major development for Assam's infrastructure, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in the Bhumi Pujan ceremony for the Palashbari-Sualkuchi bridge over the Brahmaputra River. This event marks a significant milestone in improving the state's transportation network.
The foundation stone for the bridge was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14, 2023. On the same day, 12,000 Bihu dancers set a Guinness World Record, enhancing Assam's cultural prestige. The bridge, spanning 3.6 kilometers, is expected to be completed by June 2028, featuring a 5.3-kilometer four-lane road and elevated roads to protect wetlands.
CM Sarma emphasized the bridge's role in transforming connectivity between the northern and southern banks of the Brahmaputra, improving access to key locations like Gauhati University and Tura in Meghalaya. The bridge will also facilitate the construction of the Indian Institute of Management in Palashbari.
CM Sarma highlighted other infrastructure projects, including the Dhola-Sadiya and Bogibeel bridges, a bridge between Jorhat and Majuli, and a major tunnel road project between Gohpur and Golaghat. Plans for a 32-kilometer elevated corridor to protect Kaziranga's wildlife and new bridges in Barak Valley were also announced.
The Chief Minister attributed these advancements to Prime Minister Modi's efforts, emphasizing Assam's progress as a model of peace and development. He expressed pride in Assam's national reputation and the cooperative initiatives that have improved quality of life in the Jalukbari constituency.
