Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Distributes Funds to Young Entrepreneurs
On Monday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed the first installment of Rs 75,000 to 25,238 entrepreneurs under the Mukhyamantrir Atmanirbhar Assam Abhiyan (CMAAA) at the Veterinary College Field in Guwahati. This initiative aims to empower the youth and foster a self-reliant Assam.
Details of the Scheme
Under this scheme, entrepreneurs with general qualifications will receive a total of Rs 2 lakh, with Rs 1 lakh as a grant and Rs 1 lakh as a loan. Those with professional qualifications, such as engineering or medicine degrees, are eligible for Rs 5 lakh, with Rs 2.5 lakh as a grant and Rs 2.5 lakh as a loan.
In this distribution, 25,064 entrepreneurs with general qualifications and 147 with professional qualifications received the first installment of Rs 75,000. The beneficiaries come from various sectors, including agriculture, fabrication, aquaculture, services, packaging, bamboo cultivation, poultry farming, garment manufacturing, vocational education, paper and stationery, and wood-based furniture enterprises.
Government’s Commitment
Chief Minister Sarma reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfilling its election promises, including providing 1 lakh government jobs, a promise that has been exceeded with an additional 40,000 jobs. He emphasized the transparency and corruption-free nature of the recruitment processes.
He also highlighted the state’s efforts to create a conducive environment for public sector recruitment and entrepreneurship, including the establishment of a semiconductor manufacturing unit in Jagiroad.
Future Plans
CM Sarma announced that on October 5th, a portal would be launched for the remaining 75,000 youths to apply for benefits under this scheme. He expressed hope that once 1 lakh youths have successfully transitioned into entrepreneurs, the next phase would extend similar benefits to another 1 lakh youths.
He encouraged the selected entrepreneurs to make effective use of the funds to qualify for larger loans under the Prime Minister’s Mudra Scheme. He also noted that financial institutions in the state have increased the amount of loans provided to entrepreneurs, with significant disbursements to micro, small, and medium enterprises.
