Delhi Police Arrest Two in Tragic Hit-and-Drag Case Involving Constable Sandeep
New Delhi [India], October 1: Delhi Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the hit-and-drag incident that resulted in the death of Constable Sandeep in the Nangloi area on September 29.
Details of the Incident
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Jimmy Chiram, Dharmender Gulia was driving the car when the incident occurred. Sandeep, a 30-year-old Delhi Police constable, was killed after being dragged for about 10 meters by the speeding car. The incident happened when Sandeep requested the driver to slow down due to reckless driving. Instead, the driver accelerated, hitting Sandeep’s motorcycle from behind and dragging him along the road before colliding with another vehicle.
Arrests and Investigation
Chiram stated that the police received information that Gulia was heading to Himachal Pradesh. After conducting raids at various locations, they located and arrested him at the Karnal Bypass. The car used in the crime had already been seized. Chiram clarified that there was no involvement of the liquor mafia in this case; it was a matter of road rage.
Rajnish, the other accused, was arrested earlier and produced before Delhi’s Tis Hazari court on Monday. Judicial Magistrate Charu Asiwal granted three days of custody remand for Rajnish, who is to be produced before the court on October 3. The police had sought five days of custody remand to further investigate the case.
