Arvind Kejriwal Announces Dr Ambedkar Scholarship for Dalit Students
In New Delhi, ahead of the 2025 Delhi assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced a significant initiative. On Sunday, Kejriwal revealed the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship, aimed at supporting higher education for Dalit students. This scholarship will cover expenses for Dalit students who gain admission to top universities worldwide. Government employees from the Dalit community are also eligible.
During a public event, Kejriwal emphasized the importance of ensuring that no Dalit student is deprived of higher education opportunities. He stated, "I want to ensure that no person from the Dalit community is deprived of higher education, for this, I am announcing the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship."
Kejriwal also mentioned that this scholarship is a response to comments made by BJP and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who allegedly disrespected Dr BR Ambedkar. Kejriwal said, "We are giving an answer to BJP and Union Home Minister Amit Shah who disrespected Dr BR Ambedkar by announcing the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship."
However, the timing of the announcement was questioned by Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, who asked why the scholarship was not introduced earlier, given that the Delhi Sports University remains incomplete after five years.
