The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has kicked off its flagship initiative, '2025 - The Year of AI', with a successful webinar focusing on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in various sectors. Over 1,000 AICTE-approved institutions participated, marking a significant step towards an AI-driven future for India.
Prof Ajai Chowdhry, the Chief Guest, emphasized the need for India to transition from a service-oriented economy to a product-driven one, with startups playing a crucial role. He stressed the importance of core engineering and R&D in developing AI-powered solutions for technological self-reliance. He also highlighted the need for ethical AI development to prevent misuse and expressed confidence in India's potential to create home-grown AI models.
Shweta Khurana discussed the importance of integrating AI into all courses and highlighted initiatives like the India AI Data Lab, developed with Intel, NIELIT, and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. AICTE Chairman Prof. T.G. Sitharam unveiled an ambitious AI roadmap for 2025, with over 1,000 institutions taking the AI Affirmation Pledge. AICTE plans to establish a State-of-the-Art AI Factory & Experience Centre, featuring an advanced AI Lab and XR Lab for immersive experiences.
AICTE will organize thematic AI Hackathons to address India's challenges using AI, involving students, startups, researchers, and faculty. The Year of AI will culminate with the AI MAHAKUMBH, a major AI Expo & Conference, bringing together various stakeholders to celebrate India's AI journey.
