In a recent development, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided to replace Shoaib Iqbal with his son, Aaley Muhammad Iqbal, as the candidate for the Matia Mahal Assembly constituency in the upcoming Delhi elections. Shoaib Iqbal, who was initially announced as the candidate, expressed his inability to contest and requested the ticket be given to his son. The AAP is gearing up for the Delhi assembly polls, aiming for a fourth consecutive term. The party has announced candidates for all 70 seats, while the main opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has yet to declare any candidates. The Congress party has announced candidates for 21 seats.
In its latest list, AAP has fielded Mahender Chaudhary from Mehrauli, with prominent leaders like Arvind Kejriwal contesting from New Delhi, Atishi from Kalkaji, and Saurabh Bharadwaj from Greater Kailash. The party had a strong performance in the 2020 elections, winning 62 out of 70 seats, while BJP secured eight seats.
