Yashasvi Jaiswal Breaks Virender Sehwag’s Record in Kanpur Test Against Bangladesh

In Kanpur, Yashasvi Jaiswal made history by breaking Virender Sehwag’s record for the fastest fifty in a Test match for India. Jaiswal scored 50 runs in just 31 balls during the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park.

The Indian team adopted an aggressive approach, similar to England’s ‘Bazball’ strategy, with Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal leading the charge. In the first three overs, they forced Bangladesh to push fielders to the boundary, scoring at a strike rate of over 14.

Jaiswal celebrated his quick-fire half-century, surpassing Sehwag’s previous record of 32 balls set against England in 2008. Jaiswal is now the fourth fastest Indian to score fifty in Test cricket, with Rishabh Pant holding the overall record.

Jaiswal’s impressive innings ended at 72 runs off 51 balls, dismissed by Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud. India declared at 285/9, achieving the highest run rate in a Test inning at 8.22, surpassing Australia’s 2017 record against Pakistan.

Despite two days of rain, the match saw a flurry of boundaries, with Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma setting a high scoring rate. Their partnership of 55 runs in 3.5 overs set a new record for the highest scoring rate in a Test partnership with a minimum of 50 runs.

After Rohit’s dismissal, Shubman Gill’s steady play allowed Jaiswal to continue his aggressive batting, helping India reach 100 runs in just 10.1 overs, breaking their previous record against the West Indies.
