The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24) is being held for the first time in India, in New Delhi, and has set a record with around 3,300 delegates from over 160 countries, including 36 ministers, attending the event. This assembly is part of the India Mobile Congress 2024 and marks the highest participation in WTSA history.

The event is centered on advancing next-generation technologies such as 6G, satellite communications, quantum technology, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), which are crucial for the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

India’s Significant Role

In a notable achievement, R.R. Mittar, a renowned telecom expert and former Advisor at the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, was unanimously elected as the Chair Designate for WTSA-24. Mittar has been instrumental in leading standardization efforts at the Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC).

Inauguration and Initiatives

Union Minister for Telecommunications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, inaugurated the event and launched several innovative Make in India telecom products, showcasing the country’s advancements in the sector. He emphasized India’s progress in telecommunications and outlined new initiatives to propel the sector forward, urging state governments to ensure full implementation of these initiatives with the central government’s support.

Encouraging Digital Innovation

Minister of State Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar encouraged states to create an environment that fosters digital innovation, enabling the delivery of world-class services to every citizen. The opening session was followed by plenary meetings, where various committees were formed to carry out different functions throughout the assembly.
