The Udhampur Wildlife Department in Jammu and Kashmir successfully stopped a wildlife smuggling attempt on the Jammu Srinagar national highway. During a special operation in the Samroli area, officials recovered 20 parrots from a smuggler traveling from Jammu to Srinagar.
Details of the Operation
Wildlife Block Sudhmahadev Block Officer Babu Ram reported that the parrots have been moved to rescue units. He stated, "We received information about the smuggling attempt near Samroli. The man involved has been caught, and the parrots are now safe in rescue units. Further investigation is ongoing."
Previous Wildlife Trafficking Case
Earlier, on November 12, Andhra Pradesh forest officials arrested three individuals for illegal wildlife trafficking. They were transporting rare animals from Bhubaneswar, Odisha to Bengaluru. The seized animals included African Sulcata tortoises, African ball pythons, and a serval cat. The suspects, Syaj, Vijay, and Muzayith from Karnataka, have been charged and presented in court. The animals are stable and will be relocated to Visakhapatnam Zoo.
Officials emphasize that strict legal action will be taken against anyone involved in harming or smuggling wildlife.
