West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and Others Respond to Wayanad Landslide Tragedy
A landslide in the Meppadi area of Wayanad, Kerala, has resulted in the tragic loss of at least 80 lives. West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose expressed his deep sorrow and emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between human activities and nature.
Governor Bose stated, “We are deeply saddened and shocked by this tragedy. We will all stand together in this hour of crisis and brave this storm. We pray to God that the departed rest in peace. We wish an early and speedy recovery to the injured. It is said accidents are not accidental, there is a human factor in that. This is an occasion which makes us deeply introspect the need to maintain the balance between man and nature.”
He is in touch with officials and has requested Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to provide immediate assistance. Union Minister of State George Kurian is heading to Wayanad to lead relief and rescue operations, coordinating with various agencies as directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kerala Forest Minister Saseendran has reached the affected area to assess the damage and coordinate response measures. State ministers Ramachandran Kadannappalli, along with a delegation from the Revenue, Public Works, and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Departments, are also traveling to the site.
Kerala Minister MB Rajesh stated that the state government is coordinating rescue efforts on a “war footing,” with 250 people already rescued and moved to temporary shelters. An IAS officer will be stationed in Wayanad to oversee the operations, and airlifting of stranded individuals is ongoing.
