Vinesh Phogat’s Olympic Hopes: Family and Advocates Await CAS Verdict
Charkhi Dadri (Haryana) [India], August 13: After the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) delayed the verdict on Vinesh Phogat’s case, her uncle Mahavir Phogat and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) advocate Vidushpat Singhania expressed hope for a favorable decision.
Disqualification at Paris Olympics
Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the Paris Olympics final for exceeding the 50kg weight limit by 100 grams. She had requested CAS to award her the silver medal.
Delayed Verdict
The verdict, initially scheduled for August 13, has been postponed to August 16. Mahavir Phogat said, “We had been waiting for the verdict for the last 5-6 days. We hope the decision is in our favor.” Vidushpat Singhania added, “CAS has taken a time extension till August 16. We still have hope.”

IOA President PT Usha clarified that weight management is the responsibility of the athletes and their coaches, not the IOA-appointed Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala and his team.
