10th National Handloom Day Celebration in New Delhi

The 10th National Handloom Day will be celebrated on August 7 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will be the chief guest at the event. Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh and Minister of State for External Affairs & Textiles Pabitra Margherita will also be present.

During the event, the Sant Kabir Awards and National Handloom Awards will be given to handloom weavers for their outstanding contributions. A special book titled ‘Parampara- Sustainability in Handloom Traditions of India’ will be released by the Vice President.

National Handloom Day, first celebrated on August 7, 2015, commemorates the Swadeshi Movement of 1905, which encouraged indigenous industries. The day aims to honor handloom weavers and raise awareness about the handloom sector’s importance to India’s socio-economic development.

Various activities are being organized across the country by State Governments, Weaver Service Centres, educational institutions, and other organizations to mark the occasion.
