An MoU has been signed between the Government of India and the State Government for financing the project. The Government of India has released Rs 157.50 crore as the first installment for the financial year 2024-25, while the state government has allocated Rs 200 crore for rehabilitation works in the financial year 2023-24.

The project is being constructed on the Gola River in Nainital. The first phase, which included the construction of the Gola barrage, reconstruction of a 244 km canal, and construction of the Damuva and Amritpuri colonies, has been completed.
