Uttarakhand DGP Abhinav Kumar Plans New Tech for Police Stations
Uttarakhand’s Director General of Police, Abhinav Kumar, led a crucial meeting to discuss the need for new equipment to effectively implement new criminal laws. Officials from the prosecution, justice, and prison departments, along with senior police officers, participated in the meeting.
Key Proposals
DGP Abhinav Kumar proposed providing video conferencing systems to all police stations and equipment such as tablets, body-worn cameras, mobile crime kits, and fingerprint scanners to officers from the inspector level to the head constable level. He emphasized the optimal use of all resources.
Additional Measures
He also decided to provide one mobile forensic van to each district and a mobile crime kit with a bike at the police station level for crime scene inspections.
Home Ministry Updates
A senior Home Ministry official highlighted the integration of new criminal laws into the Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS). The Ministry has updated software patches in ICJS applications and developed mobile and web apps like ‘NCRB SANKALAN’ and ‘e-Sakshya’ to help users navigate the new laws. The ‘NCRB SANKALAN’ app has been downloaded approximately 5.85 lakh times, and the ‘e-Sakshya’ app is used by 22 States/UTs.
