As voting commenced in Haryana, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami urged the state’s voters to elect a capable and development-focused government. In a message on social media, he emphasized the importance of using their democratic right wisely to shape Haryana’s future.

High-Stakes Election in Haryana

Voting is underway for 90 assembly seats in Haryana, following intense campaigning by major political parties, including the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP is seeking a third consecutive term, while the Congress aims to regain power, leveraging issues like farmer and wrestler protests.

Key Contesting Parties

The main parties in the fray are the BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), along with alliances like the Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP)-Azad Samaj Party (ASP). Voting is scheduled from 7 am to 6 pm, with 1,031 candidates competing across 90 constituencies and 20,632 polling booths set up.

Notable Candidates

Among the prominent candidates is wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who joined the Congress on September 6, alongside Olympian Bajrang Punia, after her disqualification from the Paris Olympics. In the 2019 elections, the BJP won 40 seats, forming a coalition with the JJP, which later dissolved. The Congress secured 31 seats.

The election results will be announced on October 8, alongside those of Jammu and Kashmir.
