The Uttarakhand Excise Department, under the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, conducted raids at more than 100 liquor shops across the state. This action was taken after receiving complaints about overpricing and liquor smuggling.

Details of the Raids

According to an official release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the raids were carried out on Tuesday in several districts including Pithoragarh, Almora, Nainital, Bageshwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat, Haridwar, Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Pauri Garhwal. The unexpected crackdown caused panic among the liquor shop operators.

Chief Minister Dhami has directed that any shops found guilty of overpricing or failing to maintain proper stock and sales registers will be sealed. He emphasized that overpricing and liquor smuggling will not be tolerated in the state.

Future Measures

CM Dhami also instructed the teams to conduct periodic raids in the future to continue curbing illegal activities in the liquor market. On Monday, he reviewed the law and order situation of the state with senior officials through video conferencing. The meeting included the Director General of Police, Commissioners, Deputy Inspectors General of Police, District Magistrates, and Senior Superintendents of Police.

During the meeting, CM Dhami gave strict instructions to make the law and order situation tight and proper, focusing on mutual coordination of officers, quick communication of information, and effective night patrolling. He also stressed the importance of making Uttarakhand a drug-free state by 2025 and enhancing community policing efforts.

The Chief Minister highlighted the need for better crime control measures and effective public awareness and training programs to prevent cybercrime.
