Uttarakhand CM Dhami Celebrates Ex-CM Khanduri’s Birthday and Honors State Martyrs
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited former Chief Minister Major General Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri on his birthday, wishing him a long and healthy life. Dhami visited Khanduri’s residence in Vasant Vihar to extend his greetings.
Major General (retd) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri served as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand from 2007 to 2009 and again from 2011 to 2012. He is a senior member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and represented the Garhwal constituency in the 16th Lok Sabha.
During his visit, Dhami also paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the formation of Uttarakhand. He remembered them on the eve of the anniversary of the Muzaffarnagar incident, also known as the Rampur Tiraha firing case.
Dhami stated, “Uttarakhand became a separate state as a result of the sacrifice and struggle of the state agitators, and the government is continuously working for the development of the state following the dreams of the state agitators.”
He added, “To make this decade the decade of Uttarakhand, the state government is working rapidly in every field. To make the state of Uttarakhand the ideal state of the country, we all have to work together so that the all-round development of the state can be done following the dreams of the martyrs of the state movement.”
On 28 August 2000, then President of India, K R Narayanan, approved the Uttar Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, which turned into an Act on 9 November 2000, leading to the creation of the new state of Uttaranchal, now known as Uttarakhand, as the 27th state of India.
