Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Nishad Criticizes SP Leader RK Chaudhary Over Sengol Comments

In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a heated debate has erupted over comments made by Samajwadi Party (SP) Member of Parliament (MP) RK Chaudhary regarding the Sengol, a symbol of monarchy. Cabinet Minister Sanjay Nishad has strongly criticized Chaudhary, urging him to refrain from making absurd statements and to use his right to speech thoughtfully.

Nishad stated, “In a democracy, anyone has the right to speak, but one should speak thoughtfully on the issues of the country. If there is a problem, then the problem should be spoken about. Speak about the problem and troubles pertaining to it.” He added that elected officials should focus on public issues rather than making irrelevant statements.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also condemned Chaudhary’s remarks, calling them “condemnable and indicative of ignorance.” Adityanath emphasized that the Sengol is a matter of national pride and criticized the Samajwadi Party for disrespecting Indian history and culture.

The controversy began when Prime Minister Narendra Modi installed the historic Sengol in the new Parliament building on May 28, 2023. This Sengol was previously accepted by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, on the night of August 14, 1947.

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav defended Chaudhary, suggesting that his remarks were a reminder for the Prime Minister. Congress MP Manickam Tagore also supported Chaudhary’s demand, criticizing the government for creating high drama during the Parliament inauguration.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla condemned the SP’s stance, accusing them of disrespecting Indian and Tamil culture.
