Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Criticizes Opposition

On Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak expressed his disapproval of opposition parties, particularly the Samajwadi Party, for frequently questioning constitutional institutions. He emphasized that such actions are detrimental to democracy, stating, “Constitutional institutions should not be questioned.”

Upcoming Elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand

Pathak confidently predicted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would secure a significant majority in the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. The Election Commission has announced that Jharkhand will vote in two phases on November 13 and 20, while Maharashtra will have a single-phase election on November 20. The counting of votes for both states will occur on November 23.

Allegations Against the Election Commission

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has accused the Election Commission of not acting independently and being influenced by the BJP. JMM leader Manoj Pandey raised concerns about the timing of election announcements, suggesting that BJP leaders had prior knowledge, which he described as a “serious matter.”

Other Elections and By-elections

In addition to the assembly elections, bye-elections will be held for 47 assembly constituencies and one parliamentary constituency, Wayanad, in Kerala on November 13. Bypolls for one assembly constituency in Uttarakhand and the Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra will take place on November 20, with vote counting on November 23.
