China's Response

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed the US allegations as "groundless," with spokesperson Mao Ning rejecting claims of state-sponsored hacking. She stated that China opposes all forms of hacking and accused the US of using the incident to discredit China.

This breach is part of a trend of Chinese cyber operations targeting US infrastructure. In November, a Chinese hacking group, Salt Typhoon, was reported to have infiltrated a major telecommunications company, monitoring political figures and government communications.
