UP CM Yogi Adityanath Reviews Mahakumbh Preparations in Prayagraj

On Sunday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Prayagraj to review the preparations for the upcoming Mahakumbh festival. During his visit, he performed a puja and discussed the progress of the preparations with officials. He also conducted site inspections at key locations.

The Mahakumbh Mela is scheduled to take place from January 14 to February 26, 2025. The Uttar Pradesh government is making tight security arrangements and has announced subsidies for transforming dhabas, restaurants, and hotels along major routes to improve facilities for tourists and devotees.

The main bathing festivals, known as “Shahi Snan” or royal baths, will occur on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami).

Mahant Hari Giri, head of Juna Akhara, stated that only Sanatan religious people would be allowed at the Kumbh Mela. He emphasized the need for strict security measures, including checking Aadhar cards and banning meat and liquor within a 10-kilometer radius to maintain the fair’s purity.

Giri also mentioned that the name “Mahakumbh” is derived from Persian and Sanskrit, and there are discussions about changing it. A two-day meeting has been scheduled to consider this change.
