Union MoS Shobha Karandlaje Requests CBI Probe into Police Officer’s Death in Karnataka
New Delhi, India – Union Minister of State (MoS) Shobha Karandlaje has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of Parashuram, a police sub-inspector from Yadgiri, Karnataka.
Details of the Incident
Parashuram, who served at Yadgiri Police Station, reportedly faced severe harassment and torture from local Congress MLA Chenna Reddy Patil Thunnur and his son, Sunny Gowda alias Pampanagouda. They allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 30 lakhs to allow him to continue in his current posting.
Allegations and Complaints
According to the letter, Parashuram’s wife, Shweta N.V., filed multiple complaints about the harassment, but the Superintendent of Police delayed registering the FIR. It was only after significant pressure that the FIR was finally registered under various sections of the SC and ST Prevention of Atrocities Act and the IPC.
Call for CBI Investigation
Shobha Karandlaje emphasized the need for an impartial investigation by the CBI to ensure justice for Parashuram and to hold the culprits accountable. She stated that this step is crucial to restore the morale of the police force, especially officers from marginalized communities.
The letter concluded by stressing the importance of sending a strong message against corruption and harassment within the police force.
