Union Minister Jitendra Singh has praised the new Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi for his extensive expertise and experience, calling it an asset to the Indian Army. General Dwivedi took charge as the 30th Chief of the Army Staff last month.

General Upendra Dwivedi’s Background

General Dwivedi hails from Madhya Pradesh and studied at Sainik School Rewa. He joined the National Defence Academy in January 1981 and was commissioned into the 18th Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles in December 1984. He has commanded his battalion in both the Kashmir Valley and the Rajasthan Desert.

Career Highlights

General Dwivedi has a unique distinction of balanced exposure along Northern, Western, and Eastern Theatres, in varied terrains including Deserts, High Altitude, and riverines. He has held significant roles such as Inspector General of Assam Rifles and Sector Commander in the North East. He also commanded the Rising Star Corps and the Northern Army, providing strategic guidance and operational oversight.

Contributions to the Indian Army

During his command, General Dwivedi was involved in modernizing and equipping the largest Command of the Indian Army, steering the induction of Indigenous equipment as part of Atmanirbhar Bharat. He also worked closely with the people of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh for nation-building and infrastructure development.
