Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and Tejashwi Yadav Clash Over Nawada Arson Incident
Patna (Bihar) [India], September 19: Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi criticized the opposition party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for accusing the ruling government of misleading people about an arson incident in Nawada district. He urged the opposition to consider the crime situation in the state before 2005.
Manjhi explained, “There is a land dispute in Nawada involving two castes under the SC category living on 12-14 acres of land. Land mafias targeted this land, leading to a court case. During the ongoing case, the mafias burned down 40-50 houses, resulting in one death.”
He added that the land mafias aim to scare villagers to seize and sell the land. “I have spoken to the SP and Collector, and relief work is underway. Fifteen people have been arrested, and more arrests will follow. Compensation will be provided to the victims. I will inspect the site on September 22 and demand housing for all affected under the PMAY,” Manjhi stated.
Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of Opposition in the Bihar legislative assembly, criticized Manjhi’s remarks, accusing him and his son of following the “RSS school” of thought. Yadav also criticized the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government and the BJP for not taking action against the culprits.
Responding to Manjhi’s claim that 90% of those involved were RJD supporters from a particular caste, Yadav said, “Manjhi and his son follow RSS’s teachings. The BJP and RSS influence his statements. They are in power both at the Centre and in the state. They should take action against the culprits.”
Manjhi, in a social media post, accused the opposition of turning incidents into issues to question the government’s working style. He claimed that 90% of those arrested in the Nawada incident were RJD supporters from a particular caste.
On the night of September 18, about 20-25 houses were set on fire by unidentified miscreants in Krishnanagar, Nawada district. Nawada Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDO) Akhilesh Kumar confirmed that at least 15 people have been arrested. Initial investigations suggest a land dispute as the primary cause behind the arson, according to Sunil Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Sadar Nawada.
