Union Minister Chirag Paswan Talks About Bihar’s Development and Special Status Demand

Patna (Bihar) [India], June 30: Union Minister Chirag Paswan has stated that Bihar can only develop with a double-engine government, referring to the BJP-led NDA. He mentioned the party’s success in the Lok Sabha elections, where they won most of the seats in Bihar, including all 5 seats contested by his party.

Bihar is set to go to polls in October-November 2025. Paswan expressed confidence in the leadership of CM Nitish Kumar for the upcoming assembly elections. He also discussed Bihar’s demand for special status, clarifying that it is a long-standing demand and not pressure politics.

Paswan explained that the special status should be granted to Bihar to help in its development. He mentioned that the 14th Finance Commission has not made any distinction between special and general category states since the dissolution of the 13th Planning Commission in 2014. However, the central government can still provide additional financial aid to states facing revenue deficits, which could benefit Bihar and Andhra Pradesh.
