UAE’s Road2.0 Initiative: A Push for Zero Emission Vehicles

In Abu Dhabi, the ‘Road2.0 powered by UACA’ initiative has announced a commitment to adopt zero emission vehicles (ZEVs) in the UAE. This initiative, led by the UAE Alliance for Climate Action (UACA) and supported by Emirates Nature-WWF, aims to decarbonize commercial transport. Endorsed by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Road2.0 is backed by companies like talabat and Unilever.

Corporate Commitment to Green Mobility

Seventeen companies, including Aramex, Nestle, and Schneider Electric, have pledged to test and scale commercial EVs, targeting a 30% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and 100% by 2040. By the end of the year, 90 commercial EVs will be on UAE roads, with plans to increase to 6,000 ZEVs by 2030 and potentially 20,000 by 2040.

Government and Corporate Collaboration

Sharif Al Olama from the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Affairs emphasized the importance of government-business collaboration in promoting green mobility. Mohammad Saeed Al Nuaimi from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment highlighted the initiative’s role in achieving the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy.

Laila Mostafa Abdullatif of Emirates Nature-WWF and Ahmed Kadous of Unilever also expressed their support, with Unilever leading efforts to integrate EVs into their logistics fleet.
