UAE’s Massive Relief Effort for Lebanon Amid Crisis

As Lebanon faces a humanitarian disaster due to attacks by Israel, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched a significant relief effort. UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan initiated a campaign called “the UAE stands with Lebanon,” initially planned for two weeks but later extended with AED 100 million allocated for aid.

The UAE’s aid delivery is coordinated with international organizations like the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, WHO, UNICEF, and UNHCR. The International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, led by Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, oversees the campaign, uniting various humanitarian organizations across the Emirates.

Public collection drives in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Fujairah saw massive participation, with thousands of volunteers helping pack aid materials. In three weeks, the UAE delivered AED 100 million worth of relief to Lebanon and AED 30 million to Lebanese refugees in Syria, using 15 planes and a ship carrying 2635 tons of supplies.

The campaign collected AED 122 million and 1200 tons of relief supplies from the public, with 16687 volunteers participating. Around 24 donor and volunteer organizations, including the Emirates Red Crescent Authority and Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, contributed to the effort. The UAE remains committed to supporting Lebanon until stability is restored.
