The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has shown a strong commitment to international solidarity and humanitarian cooperation through various initiatives in 2024. President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan launched the Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative, allocating AED20 billion for humanitarian work in vulnerable communities worldwide.
Key Initiatives
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, introduced the Mothers' Endowment campaign, creating an AED1 billion fund to support global education and training. Under the UAE's partnership with the G20, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, announced a USD 100 million contribution to the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty.
Health and Emergency Relief
The Reaching the Last Mile Initiative, led by President Sheikh Mohamed, committed AED55 million to the Global Institute for Disease Elimination. The UAE launched Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, a vaccination campaign in Gaza, protecting over 640,000 children from polio. Additionally, the UAE provided humanitarian aid to over one million people in Gaza.
Support in Lebanon and Sudan
In Lebanon, a USD 100 million emergency relief package was directed by President Sheikh Mohamed, along with a USD 30 million aid to displaced Lebanese in Syria. The UAE pledged USD 100 million for humanitarian efforts in Sudan and neighboring countries, and contributed USD 10.25 million to support Sudanese refugee women in Chad.
Global Assistance
The UAE extended aid to countries affected by natural disasters, including Burkina Faso, Brazil, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Kenya, and others. A USD 50 million commitment was made to the Lives and Livelihoods Fund 2.0, supporting sustainable development in Islamic Development Bank member countries.
