Tributes Pour In for Sitaram Yechury: AAP and Congress Leaders Mourn
Delhi Minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai, along with other prominent leaders, paid tribute to CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, who passed away on September 12 due to a respiratory tract infection.
Gopal Rai’s Tribute
Gopal Rai emphasized Yechury’s major contributions to democratic politics and the significant gap his sudden demise creates. Rai stated, “Sitaram Yechury had made major contributions to democratic politics. He took important initiatives in the protection of the Constitution and democracy. His sudden demise creates a gap in the national politics. I believe everyone will learn from him and work for the nation and democracy.”
Other Leaders Pay Respects
Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and AAP MP Sanjay Singh also paid their respects. Sisodia remarked, “Sitaram Yechury was a very big leader for the whole nation… He had always been a source of inspiration for all of us… No one can take his place.”
Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, along with Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Ajay Maken, Rajeev Shukla, and several CPI(M) leaders and workers, visited the CPI(M) office in Delhi to honor Yechury.

Kerala Minister P Rajeev expressed the profound loss Yechury’s death represents for national politics. Rajeev said, “The sad demise of Sitaram Yechury has created a big vacuum in the national politics. I got the opportunity to work with him as a deputy leader when he was the leader of the CPI(M) in Rajya Sabha. He was the most acceptable person in the party and everyone came to him to make decisions on every issue. It is a big loss to the party, the left and the country.”
