Train Traffic Resumes Quickly After Kavaraipettai Accident in Tamil Nadu
In Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, the Southern Railways announced that train services on the mainline were restored swiftly following the Kavaraipettai train accident. The down (DN) line was operational again, with a train passing through the site on Sunday morning.
On October 11, the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express derailed after colliding with a stationary goods train, injuring at least 19 people. Fortunately, there were no fatalities. The Southern Railways reported that the DN line track was fit by 7 am, overhead equipment (OHE) works were completed by 8 am, and signaling was reconnected by 8:30 am. Train No. 12842 passed the accident site at 9:08 am.
The up-line track was restored on Friday evening. Passengers from Train No. 12578, who were stranded due to the accident, were transported to Ponneri and Chennai Central by buses and two EMU Specials early in the morning. A high-level inquiry has been initiated by the Railway to investigate the accident.
