Toxic Foam on Yamuna River and Rising Pollution in Delhi
In Kalindi Kunj, New Delhi, toxic foam was observed on the Yamuna River, highlighting the increasing pollution levels. Dinesh Kumar, who runs an NGO dedicated to cleaning the Yamuna Ghats, expressed concerns about the foam’s harmful effects on skin and eyes, attributing it to untreated sewage water.
On Saturday, Shehzad Poonawalla, a spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party, criticized the Aam Aadmi Party, blaming Arvind Kejriwal’s politics for the hazardous water and air conditions in Delhi. He challenged Kejriwal and his party to take a dip in the river.
Meanwhile, Delhi is experiencing a rise in air pollution, with a fog layer covering parts of the city. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Anand Vihar reached 454, classified as ‘Severe’, while Dwarka, Sector 8, recorded an AQI of 311, marked as ‘Very Poor’. Other areas like ITO and Jahangirpuri also reported high pollution levels.
A Delhi resident advised wearing masks due to the increased pollution. The Central Pollution Control Board warns that ‘Severe’ AQI levels can harm healthy individuals and severely affect those with pre-existing conditions. ‘Poor’ AQI can cause breathing discomfort, and ‘Very Poor’ levels may lead to respiratory illnesses.
