Tom Latham Talks About Changes in New Zealand Cricket Contracts
New Zealand cricketer Tom Latham discussed the need for flexibility in the central contract system as more players opt for franchise cricket deals. Recently, key players like Kane Williamson, Lockie Ferguson, and Adam Milne have chosen franchise deals over central contracts. Williamson, however, has a casual playing agreement to represent New Zealand when needed.
Latham, who might become the next ODI captain, said, “Think at the moment where cricket’s going in New Zealand is slightly different. It is certainly not a black-and-white situation, and it is certainly changing with all these leagues popping up.” He emphasized the need for New Zealand Cricket (NZC) to adapt to the changing landscape.
Coach Gary Stead mentioned that the decision on the next ODI captain is still pending. “We are not at the stage of confirming it yet, so I do not want to speculate whether Tom will be or not. But he is certainly one guy that will be in discussions around that role,” said Stead.
In their upcoming home season, New Zealand will play six ODIs, three each against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, before a tri-series in Pakistan and the ICC Champions Trophy next year.
