In Kolkata, West Bengal, Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh has called for the death penalty for the accused in the RG Kar rape-murder case. Ghosh emphasized that the accused was apprehended by the West Bengal police within 24 hours and also found guilty by the CBI. He questioned the intentions of CPI-M, suggesting they were creating confusion about the desired punishment for the accused.
The Sealdah Court is expected to deliver its verdict on January 18. The victim's family continues to seek justice for their daughter, as the nation remains shocked by the incident.
In a related development, the CBI filed a chargesheet in November last year regarding financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The chargesheet named several individuals, including Sandip Ghosh, Dr. Ashish Kumar Pandey, Biplab Singha, Suman Hazra, and Afsar Ali Khan, for their involvement in financial misconduct. Sandip Ghosh was also questioned in connection with the murder case, and polygraph tests were conducted as part of the investigation.
Due to a delay in filing the chargesheet, bail was granted to the accused, including Abhijit Mondal and Sandip Ghosh.
