In New Delhi, Tibetan President-in-exile Penpa Tsering expressed his support for the recent meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Tsering highlighted the importance of improved relations between India and China, emphasizing that any steps towards peace are commendable. He noted that since PM Modi took office, he has worked to strengthen ties with China, a move appreciated by the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people who value nonviolence and peaceful coexistence.

However, Tsering also voiced caution regarding China’s trustworthiness, stating, “It’s very difficult to comment when it comes to China and it’s difficult to trust China.” He suggested that if China follows through on its discussions with India, it would mark a positive change in their behavior.

The meeting between PM Modi and President Xi took place on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan. During this meeting, both leaders emphasized the need to advance bilateral relations strategically and to enhance communication. They also discussed cooperation to tackle developmental challenges.

PM Modi welcomed the recent agreement on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, which aims to resolve issues that arose in 2020. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability at the border and highlighted the significance of mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity in India-China relations.
