Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Seeks Urgent Help from Union Government for Flood Relief

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 13: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has requested immediate financial assistance from the Union Government to help Telangana recover from severe flood damages. The CM emphasized the need for unconditional support to aid the affected people and called for relaxation of strict rules governing disaster fund utilization.

CM Reddy highlighted the challenges faced by the state in accessing the Rs 1350 crore National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) due to stringent central regulations. He pointed out that the current guidelines allow only Rs one lakh for repairing one kilometer of damaged roads, which is insufficient for even temporary repairs.

The CM shared that the recent floods have caused damages estimated at Rs 10,320 crore, affecting thousands of houses and vast agricultural lands. He praised the vigilance of ministers and officials for minimizing the loss of human lives.

During a meeting with central officials, CM Reddy proposed the construction of a retaining wall at Munneru Vagu to prevent future floods in Khammam town. He also requested funds for building houses for flood-affected people in safer areas.

CM Reddy urged the central team to focus on preventive measures and early warning systems for natural disasters. He mentioned plans to train police battalions for immediate relief efforts and sought NDRF’s help for necessary equipment and training.

The CM also discussed the recent uprooting of trees in the Medaram forest area, which caused no human loss but required a scientific study to prevent future incidents. The central team, led by NDMA advisor Colonel KP Singh, inspected the flood-affected areas in Khammam, Mahbubabad, and Suryapet districts.
